ISABEL RAMOS
Jaguariúna
The theme of this work was inspired by a trip that the artist did to a former coffee plantation in the northwest of the state São Paulo, near Campinas, Brazil. The location is known for its luxurious flowers and vegetation of intense chromatic variation that dazzles anyone who visits.
Once again, the artist wondered through the landscape, observing every detail: the wind, the sounds from the animals and the vegetation, the textures of different plants, the hypnotizing colours, the intense tropical smells, and the feelings it all transmitted. This is one of those places that takes advantage of anything that grows and reproduces there, reminding us of the ontological connections of everything and that nature is incrusted in us.
This installation is a reaction to the artist’s experience of that place. Perhaps a painting would not do justice to the experience of feeling that particular location; as Walter de Maria reminded us ‘Nature always wins’. But while observing this particular work, one can comprehend how the artist intensively lives the landscape and even feels its ‘intimate knowledge’.
